Submission guidelines

AWG Shares Magazine is published on the 15th of every month. See past issues here. Subscribe to AWG Shares here.

All submissions from individuals who fit our membership profile will be published. No rejections. If there is any question about the submission (formatting, content, other), we will contact the submitter to resolve the problem.

Already-published/simultaneously submitted material in all genres is welcome, as long as the original publisher doesn't mind.

Submission periods

Submission periods run from the first to last day of every month. Submissions collected during a given month will be published on the 15th of the next month.

Example: Submissions collected between April 1 and April 30 will be published on May 15th.

Accepted media and genres

AWG Shares accepts submissions on any topic, in any medium that's publishable online. Original work only. No rejections.

All submissions from individuals who fit our membership profile will be published. If there is any issue with the submission (formatting, content, other) we'll reach out by email for more information. Some light editing may occur, but not without the submitter's consent.

Already-published/simultaneously submitted material in all genres is welcome, as long as the original publisher doesn't mind.

Prose
Articles, short fiction, essays, excerpts of longer works, opinion pieces

Poetry
All styles of poetry

Visual art
Illustrations, comics, short graphic fiction and nonfiction, photographs, sculpture, animations

Auditory art
Music, sound art

Other media
Letters to the editor, podcasts, videos, interviews, recordings of performance art

Personal promotion
Send a blurb and/or graphic about your project, website, social media feed, accomplishments, or any other announcement.

Business promotion
List your business or volunteer services in our Business section. Non-autism-related services are welcome. Part of the point of the magazine is to cultivate business and services relationships within the group.

Classifieds
For sale, for free, wanted, employment, friendship, dating, misc. Use your discretion when creating or contacting classifieds.

Content guidelines

We encourage works directly related to experiences with autism, but all subjects are welcome.

Trigger-warning topics (for example, suicide, abuse) are welcome and will be published with a trigger warning in the table of contents and under the title.

The magazine is family-friendly. Serious topics and trigger-warning topics are welcome, but please, no gratuitous violence, sex, or profanity (think Chuck Palahniuk.)

Length and formatting guidelines

If your submission length or format does not fit into the categories below, please contact AWG to consult. If your piece is already hosted elsewhere on the web, please send a link.

Prose
Up to 6,000 words per piece. Format as .doc, .docx, or .odt, or paste directly into the submission form.

Poetry
Up to 250 lines per piece (not counting title or empty lines. Format as .doc, .docx, or .odt, or paste directly into the submission form.

Visual art
Format as .png, .jpg, or .pdf.

Video recordings
Format as .mp4. If the video is hosted elsewhere on the web, please send a link.

Audio recordings
Format as .mp3. If the audio is hosted elsewhere on the web, please send a link.

Other

Advertising

AWG members may run ads in AWG Shares at no cost. Send your blurb and/or graphic using our submission form.

Copyright info

The submitter retains all rights to publish their work in any venue or form. AWG Shares Magazine has non-expiring rights to publish the full piece or excerpts in AWG spaces like newsletters, podcast, and autisticwomensgroup.com.
